Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m a California native and 38 years old. I started writing in 2005. William from Echoes of Ossiria has been with me in one variation or another that long. I have a cat, Scrapper, which features in my Caturday blog posts. He’s 13lbs or so and more dog than cat. And no one would ever guess he’s 12. As my bio states, I have a wide variety of interests, so whether you want to talk fashion or geekdom or history, I’m there.
You currently have six books out. Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently if you had to start over again?
Hmm…probably finish more stories before we started publishing them. I can be a slow writer, so I’m not sure how long it will be before the next book will be ready.
Tell us about Echoes of Ossiria. The covers are dark and ominous looking. Do you consider your stories darker than many PNR romances?
ECHOES OF OSSIRIA includes immortals, vampires, demons, witches, paladins, and every-day humans, with love, loss, danger, torture, sex, and blood. Ossiria is a land in an alternate dimension. A horrible event took place there that had impact on several worlds including Earth. You can read about that in The First Vampires, the free prequel. Are the stories darker than most? Probably not, at least not in the current books. Moments to come are definitely going to go darker than where we are now. I’m not afraid of writing insanity, torture, or killing off a character, so things will get worse before they get better.
Other than famous authors and industry professionals, who inspires you to write?
That answer is more of a ‘what’ than a ‘who’. I’m visual, so something in a movie or TV show will spark an idea. And I like to find photos of people that can represent my characters, and photos of settings or houses. I do love when my betas like my writing, and I have one fan, Sherri, who has been very supportive for years.
What, in your opinion makes vampires such sexy creatures that PNR readers just can’t seem to get enough of?
Well, the whole vampire thing can be a metaphor for sex, so there’s that. Biting is pretty intimate when you think about it. The immortality makes them fascinating. What have they lived through? The hot bods and pretty faces help. The bad boy hero never gets old, too. They’re strong, fast, deadly…and they know stuff. And think of the flexibility of writing them…everyone’s had a different take, which keeps vampires from getting stale. We even learned with Twilight that readers will accept vampires that sparkle and don’t have fangs.
Do you have anything specific that you’d like to say to your readers, or to new readers just finding you?
If you’ve read any of my stories, thank you! I still feel like I’m unknown and starting out, so I’m grateful for anyone that gives Echoes of Ossiria and the spin-off Echoes of Ossiria: Strange Allies a chance.
What’s in the works for you right now? When can we expect to see it released to the world?
Both series have the next books in progress. I’m working on William’s next story for EoO and the next EoO: SA book should be Adam’s origin story. A teaser of William’s sequel is posted at http://vivian-lane-author.blogspot.com/2015/07/wipwednesday-teaser-williams-sequel.html
We’d love to see an excerpt of you work. Do you have one you could share?
I have an excerpt from Adam’s story going on my blog and newsletter Aug. 19th. http://vivian-lane-author.blogspot.com/
